I just turned 49 today, and I'm happier than I've ever been! While I was having my teeth cleaned earlier this week, my dental hygienist mentioned that she didn't become a dental hygienist until she was in her late 40s. She had been a psychiatric nurse up until that time. She asked what I would like to do if I could do anything I wanted. I waited for her to take that awful dental tool out of my mouth and then told her that I would make things. I've always made things. My mom was a seamstress (aka sewist) but I had no desire to sew when I was living at home. My first real attempt at creating was crocheting, then I moved on to knitting, then cross stitch, then scrapbooking, then finally quilting. I think I finally found it! I simply can't seem to get enough of it.
49.....
It's being happy and content with everything in my life.
It's being a 6-year cancer survivor.
It's being a mom to a healthy, happy 24-year-old son.
It's being married for 30 years to a wonderful husband.
It's having the best dog ever - Giacomo the Schnoodle.
It's having a loving and supportive family.
It's having great friends - friends that I get together with once a month (out to dinner with one group and MQG sew days with the others), friends that I've met online (yes, you can have friends that you've never met in person).
This is 49.
In celebration of being the great age of 49, I'm having a great little giveaway! Two winners will each receive a $20 gift certificate to Winter Creek Cloth! I love spending the day doing something for me (like sewing all day), then spending the evening with my family.
ReplyDeleteI love to start the day with breakfast in bed while I read for a bit, then I try and schedule something with friends on that day. The best is a roadtrip to some favorite fabric shops.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday. Birthdays are good. I had my 69th, last month.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I can join you in celebrating the whole month since mine is in August too!

Not sure what but I've got my thinking cap is on!!! Enjoy your month.... I think that is an awesome idea!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and congratulations on feeling so content with what you have in life. It's so easy not to appreciate the good things, isn't it. And a birthday is always a good time to take stock. Lovely give away. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI like spending a quiet day with my husband of 27 years. Funny thing is today is his 52nd birthday and we spent the day moving our youngest daughter into her college dorm in 95 degree heat. Relaxing in the motel with a couple drinks finally. Hope your birthday fantabulous!!!

Beautiful photo Lisa - so happy! A belated Happy Birthday (though I think I'm only a day and a bit late with the time zone difference which makes me feel slightly better!). I love that you celebrate for the entire month - you have much to celebrate! My birthday is usually low key - just the way I like it - with my children waking me up early to shower me with home made cards and gifts (I love these!). Some gifts and breakfast from my husband and lunch with a friend. And I don't do any housework!!
ReplyDeleteI go shopping and buy something for myself. A new dress or pair or shoes. Or treat myself to a facial or pedicure. :)
ReplyDeletea halloween party , my birthday is NOV 1
ReplyDeleteI celebrate all month too.. its not over until I have seen all of my family
DeleteI have some friends that I get together with to celebrate. It's usually a lunch and movie...sometimes a few drinks but always fun!

Happy birthday! You are looking good, girl! I turned 48 on the 3rd. We are almost sisters! :-) I am so like you. I always want to make things. And I've tried all crafts (and still do). I think I found it in quilting, too, but it doesn't stop me from still trying new stuf. :-)
ReplyDeleteHAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :)
ReplyDeleteI celebrated my birthday by heading to Denver to visit friends with my hubby and daughter.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I saw your tote swap posts on IG and had to come check you out. I really want to take yours home!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! You have a wonderful attitude about aging; I need to take it to heart!
ReplyDeleteI usually forget mine!
ReplyDeleteMy last birthday I was heavily pregnant and hoping the baby would stay put so we wouldn't have the same birthday!! Usually though I just like being with family and friends, I always have 'birthday breakfast' with my mum :)
ReplyDeleteHappy belated Birthday to you!
