It's all about quilting and sewing

When I first put together my new craft room last year, I really thought I wanted to have my scrapbooking stuff accessible (those shelves on the right) so it would be easy to just pick up and work on it whenever I had the urge.  Well....I haven't had the urge in the last 7 months, so I'm putting it all away to make room for my fabric!! Not too far away...just in the closet. I started emptying the shelves and the closet today to make room for everything. Now my room is a disaster!!!

I really planned on sewing this weekend, but it's not looking like that's going to happen. :(

But I'll be so much more organized as soon as everything is put away.  I'll have room for everything else that has to do with quilting and sewing!!

Look at that organization in my closet already!  We're heading out to the store to buy some pegs for the shelving.  More pics later!!  :)

Quilt backs are important, too

I neglected to post a picture of Alana's quilt back because the pictures didn't turn out so great, so I've played around with the color a bit. As I mentioned in my previous post, Alana is a dog lover, so most of the back is in paw prints. So flippin' cute!!! In the few quilts I've made, I've only done one-fabric backs, but after reading How To Make a Pieced Quilt Back on Jaybird Quilts, I decided to go for it. I didn't get all fancy like Julie on Jaybird Quilts does, but maybe some day I'll get crazy and take some chances.

Happy Birthday Quilt

I've been reminded several times lately that I'm overdue for posting on my blog, so here it is! I've just been so busy sewing!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....I Love Birthdays! Alana is a very dear friend of mine who just happened to mention sometime in the last 2 years that she wanted a quilt for her __th birthday. So....I got to work on this project!

Her __th birthday was on February 15th, and I finished the quilt on February 13th! Whew! Just in time! She loved it!

Giacomo loved the quilt so much (actually, he was more jealous of it!), and I lost count of how many times I had to tell him to get off of it. Most of the time, he would back off of it when I told him to.....except for one foot. It's a good thing Alana is a dog lover  :)

I made the binding using my Accuquilt Go! and was very pleased with the result!

I bought this kit at a quilting expo 2 years ago. It's Seaside Climbing Rose by Beach Garden Quilts and was so much fun to make. I've never been fond of green, blue, and brown mixed, but I've come to really like this combination, and I knew Alana would love it.

Happy Birthday, Alana!

Accuquilt Rocks!!

I had been eyeing the Accuquilt in every issue of Fons & Porter Love of Quilting that I received in the mail, but just didn't know enough about it. Then I received some $$$ for Christmas (actually before Christmas) so decided to buy it for myself!  :)  I immediately took it out of the box and cut some squares with the die that was included.  OMG! It was SO easy to use and so much fun! I was anxious to buy more dies but wasn't sure what to do with each of them so I started watching all the YouTube videos and other videos included on the Accuquilt website (I'm sure I spent HOURS doing this!), and made a list of other dies that i wanted for Christmas. My sweet husband bought me the 2-1/2" strip die. Oh, the things I could do with this!!! I came across Marjorie Busby's Go! Bias Binding video and had to try it!! I've never used a bias binding before, so I had some trouble piecing all of the angles, but cutting them was SO easy!!! I think I'll just need to practice some more with the piecing. I'll post pics of the bias binding when I finish my current project.
The packaging: I want to make this quilt!! The 6-1/2" Tumbler die was backordered, but I just ordered it today. Maybe this will be my next quilt???
